Our osteopath in London is specialised in Postnatal Conditions & Rebalancing new mums body and mind after giving Birth (Difficult birth, C-section, body ache & postnatal stress and depression).
Birth injuries and difficult birth can affect mothers as well as babies with physically (pelvis pain, back pain…) and emotionally long-term effects. Whether you had a difficult delivery or a C-section, giving birth is often physically traumatic for a woman and their baby but it can also be psychologically difficult and lead to a PTSD called Postnatal Depression, Post-Partum Depression or more commonly Baby Blues. Osteopathy has a great effect to release both physical and emotional traumas as well as stress after delivery.
At Mummy’s Physio London, our Osteopath is highly trained in Women’s Health and can provide specialised treatments and rehabilitation from traumas due to difficult birth such as musculoskeletal pain, PGP (pelvic girdle pain), post c-section scar or fibrosis (excessive development of fibrous connective tissues), tiredness and stress.

When shall I start my Rehabilitation Post Traumatic Birth?
After childbirth, it is necessary to wait at least six to seven weeks before starting any physical exercises and rehabilitation. During the first assessment, the osteopath will process to a full check-up in order to determine any birth related issues and be able to prevent them before they turn into further complications.
What Osteopathy can do to Women suffering from Traumatic Birth or difficult delivery with forceps or ventouse in London?
Mothers who suffer from Traumatic Birth injuries are more likely to end up tired and stressed, which can lead to potential PTSD or PND (Postnatal Depression) if it hasn’t happened yet. Symptoms may also appear on a physical level with an unbalanced and tense body, combined with musculoskeletal aches that might have appeared following a difficult delivery (very long labour, c-section, vaginal tear, intervention with utilisation of tools such as forceps, ventouse…).
By working on the body structure and rebalancing it, Osteopathy will improve the overall state of the mother, physically and mentally, decreasing any stress or feeling of tension.
Paediatric Osteopathy can be required as well
It is as important to check the baby as they might end up with traumas as well, resulting then in bonding issues and stress on both sides. By preventing any postnatal problems from turning into long term consequences and rebalancing the baby’s body, they will therefore work on the mother’s emotional state and fatigue, leaving them out of worries.
What is Postnatal Depression (PND) also called Post-Partum Depression or Baby Blues?
Postnatal depression is a common type of depression that many mothers experience after giving birth, but don’t necessarily realise they have as it can appear gradually. The symptoms are mostly similar to those in depression at other times, including low mood, tiredness and anxiousness.
What are the symptoms of Postnatal Depression?
- a persistent feeling of sadness and excessive crying
- lack of enjoyment or interest in anything
- lack of energy and persistent tiredness
- bonding issues with the baby
- sleeping difficulties
- self-neglect
- retreat from contact or communication with other people
- concentration issues and difficulties in making decisions
- feeling of insecurities and worrying constantly about their baby
